Kenneth C. Bangert, 80 years old, passed away December 7, 2014 at 4:47 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.

Kenny was born March 9, 1934, the son of Velmer and Corina Bangert of Nokomis. He married Barbara Niehaus on August 15, 1954. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Kenny was a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he served as finance chairman and as President of the Cemetery Board. Kenny was a member of the Morrisonville American Legion Reddick Post 721 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Besides his family, Kenny’s great love was farming. He actively farmed for more than sixty years. He was very proud of having driven a tractor to Washington D.C. in 1979 in support of the American Ag Movement and still has the tractor today, 1967 Kenny was honored to receive the Jaycee’s outstanding Young Farmer Award.

Kenny is survived by his wife Bobbie of Taylorville, daughter Lorie (Mark) Bilyeu of Assumption, son Kent (Sharon) of Decatur, son Kurt (Debbie) of Nokomis; Grandchildren Lindsay, Heath, Katie (Kenneth), Drew, Brittany (Ryan), Klint (Brittany), Taylor (Ashley), and Morgan; Great-Grandchildren, Audra, Trace, Avery, Eli, Emery and Levi; sister Marge (Harold) Hadley of Witt and Doris (Earl) Bailey of Owaneco. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters and one sibling at brith.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Fairview United Methodist Church. Pastor Ric Miles will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, at the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fairview Cemetery.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. He always made a point to smile and wave or stop and chat when they were working the fields next to our house. Will miss seeing him and his smile.
