Wilma LaVonne (Evrley) Miles

Wilma L.  Miles, 93, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL.  She was born October 29, 1927 as one of five children born to Fred H. & Bertha Mae (Detmers) Evrley Of Ohlman, IL.  She attended school in Ohlman and Rosemond.

She married Homer “Bill” Delahunt. They divorced. 

In May 1951 Wilma married Roy C. Miles. They were blessed with sixty-five years of marriage, farming in rural Irving, IL. There, they raised five children, all who survive. Children are Merilyn J. Kunz of Hillsboro, Carolyn M. (Howard) Tiemann

of Litchfield, Janice Miller of Irving, Jerry (Patt) Miles of Fillmore & Joann (Kevin) Logsdon of Champaign; 13 grandchildren and a multitude of great and great –great grandchildren.

Wilma was a dedicated and extraordinary mother, homemaker and farm wife. For many years she also drove a school bus for the Hillsboro School District, touching lives of her many passengers. Her gracious gift of hospitality was evident as her home was open & welcome to those who visited. So much so that it became the neighborhood gathering place on a near daily basis with numerous family and friends rotating through her doors. She was an excellent cook and housewife who always had the coffee pot on and cookies on hand. She was especially well known for her pies, homemade noodles and sugar cookies.  Outdoors she helped work the farm and was an avid gardener. She especially enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. She was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and Home Extension as well as Woodside Ladies Aid.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Miles was preceded in death by her sister, Opal and two brothers, Everett and Jesse Evrley.

Visitation will be held at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 4-8 PM.  Funeral services will also be at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:30 AM.  Burial will be at Bost Hill Cemetery in Irving.
