Shirley Anne Knecht, a lifelong resident of Nokomis, Illinois, died Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Shirley was born November 11,1948 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Harold and Leona (McCullen) Knecht.
She is survived by her brother, Charles (Bobbie) Knecht; nieces Colleen (Butch) Klescewski, Danielle, Heidi and Heather and nephew Brian; and great nieces and nephews Braden, Ava and Taylor Klescweski and Miles and Chloe Knecht.
Shirley was beloved, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was the fun aunt who babysat her nieces and nephews. She was a loyal and loving family member and a full-time caregiver to her parents.
Shirley was a lifelong animal lover. She owned and enjoyed caring for and riding her horse, Cherokee. She owned several rescue dogs during her lifetime, enjoyed feeding the birds and had squirrels eating from her hand.
An avid collector of Native American artifacts, she spent many happy hours along a creek south of town, uncovering a wide variety of Indian points and implements.
Shirley's last few years were spent at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She could be seen in her wheelchair "patrolling" the hallway daily greeting staff and visitors. The family is grateful for the Management and Staff who provided a safe and supportive home for Shirley.
