Sharon Hethmon Obituary

Ka Hethmon, 81, of Nokomis went to join our Lord on February 16, 2022  surrounded by family at St. John’s Hospital.

Sharon Ka (Beard) Hethmon was born March 13, 1941 in Cairo, Illinois to Eulene Troutman. She was one of three children; Julia (Judy) Warden of Champaign, Illinois, and Charles Troutman of Ocean Shores, Washington. Ka spent her childhood honing her artistic talent and cooking skills with her grandmother with which she passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Ka met Carl Hethmon while working at General Telephone in Carbondale IL. They were married on April 28, 1967. They and their three children, Stacey DeJaynes of Nokomis, IL, Lynn (Maureen) Hethmon of Anchor, IL, and Julia (John) Crowe of Nokomis, IL, moved around Southern Illinois as Carl’s work pulled them. As their children grew older and started families of their own, Ka and Carl settled in Centralia, Illinois.

Ka loved learning of her family history and spent many hours studying genealogy. She enjoyed fishing, music, and, if the occasion arose, arguing politics.  Ka loved spending time with her fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She and Carl created a welcoming and loving home for not only their children, but also their grandchildren and, eventually, their great-grandchildren.

Ka was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Timothy (Michell) DeJaynes of Tampa, FL, Kasie DeJaynes of Centralia, IL, James (Sarah) Hethmon of Webb City, MO, Justin (Chelsea) DeJaynes of Irvington, IL, Danielle McLeod of Bloomington, IL, J’dah (Cyrus) Koger of Nokomis, IL, Jessica (Jake) Thorndyke of Saybrook, IL, Matthew (Brenann) Crowe of O’Fallon, IL, Jonathan Hethmon of Colfax, IL, Rachel McLeod of Gibson City, IL, Lauren McLeod of Gibson City, IL, Connor McLeod of Georgetown, IL, Jorgia Crowe of Nokomis, IL, ; and great-grandchildren: Jake, Alivia, and Elias DeJaynes; Kainen DeJaynes, Ryder, Carl, & Geneva Koger, Mackenzie Ka & Bo Daryle Thorndyke, Lilian, Nolan, Lennon, Leighton, & Layn Crowe, Alexandria McLeod, and Kye & Jiana McLeod.

Ka was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; mother, Eulene; sister, Judy; and loving pet-companion miniature dachshund, Evelyn.
