Robert Schniepp of Hillsboro, formerly of rural Nokomis, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on May 27th, 2020. He was 87 years old.
He was born to Ada and Fred Schniepp on July 30, 1932 in Rosamond Township. He attended Nokomis high school and graduated with the class of 1950. He served in the army during the Korean War and was deployed overseas there. After honorable discharge from the army he returned home to help his father farm. He married Betty Barringer on June 22nd, 1958 and pursued a career in farming. He was active in the church and community and belonged to several organizations, including Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the American Legion, Central Illinois Beef Association, Eastern Star, and the ATA.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Hillsboro; brother Orville and sister Virginia (Clark) of Decatur; daughter Melody of Oxnard, California; son Jim (Ives Vidal) of Chicago, and granddaughter Ellen of Los Angeles, CA.
He enjoyed vacations with his family from the beaches of the Outer Banks to the beaches of Hawaii as well as trips to California to visit his daughter and granddaughter. His unofficial motto was “a stranger is just someone I haven’t talked to yet”.
There will be a limited visitation Sunday May 31, from 1:30 to 2:45 at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home followed by immediate family only private grave side services at Nokomis Cemetery with limited Masonic Rites and limited Military Rites.
