Orville H. Johnson, 95 of Nokomis passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 at noon at Tremont Ridge, Hillsboro, Illinois.
Orville, the son of Henry F. and Ruth E. Buse Johnson was born February 20, 1924 in Greenwood Township, Nokomis, Illinois. He married Dorothy V. Lange June 15, 1947 at the United Church of Christ in Carlinville, Illinois. She passed away February 27, 2019. He is survived by sons Duane(Christy) Johnson of Chillicothe, Il., David Johnson and daughter Delores, grandchildren Kyle, Karen, Dayna and Adam, great grandchildren Owen, Logan and Evan. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents and brothers Eldon, Wayne and Ronald Johnson.
Services will be Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, Illinois with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nokomis, Illinois. Visitation will be at the Hillsboro church on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
Memorials are suggested to the Honor Flight Program.
He was a World War II veteran of the US Army (Combat Engineers). After the war, he came home to farm. He was active in Waples-Bauer Post 94, American Legion, Nokomis, Illinois, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and Montgomery County Pork Producers. He was designated State Farmer of the year in 1954 by the Farm Bureau. Orville served on many boards and committees including Bank of Hillsboro for 33 years, Lincoln Praire Water Company, Wenonah Village Board President and various church boards. He retired from farming several years ago but remained active in the community.
