Obituary

Murel Dean Sanders, 85, of Witt passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 in Pana, Illinois.

Visitation for Mr. Sanders will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 5-7 PM at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis.  Services will be held at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 1:30 with Reverend Edmund Hill officiating.  Full military honors will be held at Nokomis Cemetery following the service.

Mr. Sanders was born October 9, 1936 in Audubon Township to Alice (Hill) and Oral Sanders.  After graduating from high school he served in the Army National Guard.  He married Barbara Shoemaker they divorced.  He married Judy Engelhart they divorced.  Murel worked as a carpenter, farmer and coal miner and was a member of the Nokomis Volunteer Firemen.

He is survived by his children Dara (David) Berner of Oconee, Debra Sanders of Pana, Michelle (Larry) Koontz of Pana, Kevin (Carmen) Sanders of Nokomis, grandchildren and great grandchildren and long time friend Judy Spindel. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Pearson-Holthaus and sister Karen Buechsenschuetz,.
