Mike Foster

  L. Michael “Mike” Foster, 74, of Nokomis passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

   L. Michael Foster, son of George Foster and Nedra ( Fish) Foster, was born at Hillsboro Hospital on January 15, 1951. He grew up in the middle of 7 children in Fillmore. Mike attended Fillmore Grade School and Jr High and graduated from Nokomis High School with the class of 1969 where he played football, baseball and basketball. He attended Eastern Illinois University where he graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. During his career he also attended University of Wisconsin School of Banking.
     On March 3, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Scheller and together they celebrated 53 yrs. of marriage.
     They have 2 children, Jeff Foster ( wife Christine) of Collinsville, IL and Erin Lawhorn ( husband Curtis Lawhorn) of Nokomis; 4 granddaughters, Jordan Partin ( husband Michael) of Grain Valley, Mo. and Kiley, Leah and Mia Lawhorn of Nokomis. They welcomed their first great-granddaughter Isabella Partin on May 6th.
      Mike spent most of his adult life in banking. First as an examiner for the FDIC and then as a bank president and executive with Banterra Bank Corp in southern Illinois. Mike and Sue returned to their hometown in 2017 to be closer to family.
     Mike enjoyed traveling, history, golf and fishing but his favorite thing was spending time with his granddaughters and family.
     He is survived by his wife Sue; children and grandchildren; brothers Danny Foster( wife Kat) of Fillmore and Barry Foster( wife Renae) of Warner-Robbin’s Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary Donaldson, and sisters Dana Witzig, Brenda Epley and Teresa Bianchi.
Services will be held at Stiehl Dawson funeral home on Saturday May 31, 2025 with visitation starting at 10 am followed by funeral services at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Nokomis cemetery.
