Mary Ann (McClain) Carroll, 86, of Wenonah, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Copper Creek in Litchfield. She was born on August 14, 1939 in Harviell, MO to D.E. and Mary Ellen (Shelton) McClain. She had lived in Nokomis since 1945, moving to Wenonah in 1971. Mary Ann married Murrell “Leroy” Carroll on December 11, 1960 and lived in Nokomis and Wenonah until his passing on May 27, 2015.
Mary Ann had worked at various clerical jobs including Hedlund Mfg. Co., Dr. Robert Schmidt, Optometrist, State of Illinois in Springfield, Illinois Sheepskin, Inc., Farmer’s Mutual Ins. Co., and Nokomis Savings Bank. She attended Sparks Business College later in life and received her degree as a medical transcriptionist. She then finished her working career after 9 years at Shelby Memorial Hospital. She also served as the village clerk of Wenonah for 17 years and was an active member of her church, Coalton Baptist, throughout the years.
Mary Ann is survived by three daughters, Rebecca A. Carroll of Troy, Missouri, Ramona L. Tomazzoli of Hillsboro and Regina E. Siebert of Ohlman. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Colleen (Trevor) Rice of San Antonio, Texas, Dillan (Crystal) Edrington of Pana, Dalton Siebert of Nokomis and Adam (Kourtney) Dodds of Coffeen and three great grandchildren, Dean Rice and Nova and Stone Edrington as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters in infancy, brother and sister-in-law, John and Margaret McClain, and sister, Cynthia Hayes.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 13th at Stiehl-Dawson funeral home in Nokomis from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. An additional visitation will be held Saturday March 14th from 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M with a funeral service immediately following with Pastor Justin Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Nokomis Cemetery.
