Lyle E. McElroy, 87, of Nokomis passed away peacefully Saturday, November 6, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family. The son of Kenneth and Mary (Seagle) McElroy, Lyle was born in Butler, Illinois on June 13, 1934.
Lyle married Jean Jaros, December 24, 1954 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Nokomis. She survives as do daughters Stephanie (Paul) Kincaid, Veronica (Randy) Akin, Carla (Craig) Carey all of Springfield, Monica (Dan) Clavin of Nokomis; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sister Marilyn Gonet of Coalton and brother Dean (Maxine) McElroy of Irving. He was preceded in death by his son Robert McElroy June 28, 2005; brothers Michael, Darrell and Dallas McElroy.
Lyle was an Army veteran of 9 years serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Caterpillar as a supervisor after 25 years. He drove semis for Buske, Donley and was an attendant at Farmer's Oil, wrote a column in the Free Press Progress and was employed by Tosetti & Associates. He had his GED and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a former member of the American Legion.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM in St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis with Father Dan Willenborg and Father John Burnett officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM with complete military services to follow after the Mass. Memorials are suggested to St. Louis Church or St. Louis School.
