Louis Epley Obituary

Louis Carl Epley, 90, of Nokomis, Il, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born on February 9, 1931 in Nokomis, IL, a son of the late Lester and Caroline (Hoehn) Epley.

Mr. Epley was a veteran and Corporal of the United States Army having served during the Korean War in Germany from January 1952 until his honorable discharge in January of 1954.  

Louis married the former Patsy Niehaus on February 20, 1955 in Taylorville, IL and she survives.

Louis was a laborer and coal miner for several years at the Freeman Crown coal mine in Farmersville and Virden until his retirement in mid 1990s.

He was a member of the former St. Barbara Catholic Church in Witt, IL, St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL, Knights of Columbus 2189 in Nokomis and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.

He is also survived by his

Children, Edward “Rocky” Epley of Springfield, IL;  Terry Epley of Springfield, IL; Tammy (Marvin) Johnson of Nokomis, IL; Barry Epley of Nokomis, IL; Tracy (Cathy) Epley of Hillsboro, IL;  Monte (Pacie) Epley of Nokomis, IL;    Toni Robertson of Nokomis, IL

Grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, Blake, Deidre, Cody, Brock & Megan

13 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way

Siblings, Rita Spannagel of Taylorville, IL; Lorriane Halford of Harriston, IL; Bernice Tuetken of Irving, IL; Mary Ann Stortzum of Dieterich, IL; Ruth Herpstreith of Nokomis, IL; Barb Drewes of Chatham, IL; Leo Epley of Washington, IL

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ken & Bob Epley; sisters, Rose Marie Clavin, and Marie in infancy; great grandchild, Caston Hanger.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:00 A.M at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Rev. Albert Allen will preside. Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, also located in Nokomis, IL. Military Honors provided by the Funeral Honors Team and the Local Waples-Bauer American Legion Post #94 will take place at graveside. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the St. Louis Catholic School, St. Louis Catholic Church or the Nokomis Athletic Club.
