Lamar “Goose” Lipe, 80, of Nokomis, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Lamar Lipe will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM, August 18, 2024, at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home with Dr. Ryan Follis presiding. Visitation will be Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Lamar was born May 25,1944 in Witt, Illinois to Raymond and Myrtle (Taylor) Lipe. He grew up on the family farm helping his father until 1961, he went to work for Drum Kettlekamp at his gas station. After working for Kettlekamp, he went to work for Wagner Castings for 2 ½ years. In March 1966, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Korea for 13 months until May 1969; he was involved with the military for 38 months total. After retiring from the service, he worked for 2 ½ years as a plasterer for Carter and Kirk in Fillmore. He then started his own business, Lipe’s Tire Service, providing assistance to the Nokomis and surrounding communities, retiring on July 2, 2008, after 37 years.
He and Sharon (Sanders) Lipe were married but later divorced. Lamar and Tamara (Couch) Lipe married, and Tamara preceded Lamar in death on July 19, 1994.
“Goose”, as most everyone knew him, was a man of his word. Just a handshake would be his promise to get whatever they needed done. His greatest love was his children, grandchildren and his dog, Scooter. He enjoyed reading, old cars and riding his motorcycle. He traveled much of the United States in his RV, spending winters in Eldorado Acres in Mission, Texas where he was in charge of the Pool League during his time vacationing there.
Lamar is survived by his sons, Greg (Jill) Lipe of Nokomis and David (Mandy) Lipe also of Nokomis and step-daughter, Shanna Kay Hadley of Decatur; grandchildren, Adrienne, Aaron, Kerstyn, Faith, Gavin, Carsen and Karter; great grandchildren; Caiden, Fiona, Elwood and Isaac; sisters, Sharon Cox of Clinton and Darlene (Bill) Carlock of Fillmore and numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and wife, Tamara, he was preceded in death by his son, Kristopher Lipe on August 30, 2016; siblings; Francis Lipe, Herschel Lipe and brother-in-law, Merle Cox.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Nokomis Cemetery Association.
