John W. Skinner 81 of Nokomis passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. at 1:53 am. surrounded by his loving family. The son of Chester H. and Mary Morrison Skinner he was born in rural Nokomis. He married Cheryl Sanders June 6, 1962. She survives as do two daughters, Kimberlee (Jim) Wilson and Julee (Kelly) Johnson, grandchildren Shaylee Wilson (Aron Watkins), Kacey Johnson and Jayme Johnson and great granddaughter Lilah Watkins all of Nokomis, sisters Edna Brown of Virginia and Patsy Campbell of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Harriett Alvey and Pamela Clay.
John worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron for many years as a welder and boilermaker then retired as a supervisor from CIPS power plant in Coffeen. He graduated from high school and was a member of Nokomis AF & AM Masonic Lodge #456. John loved the outdoors! He loved bass fishing in his boat, camping with friends and family, and loved to ride his motorcycles! He enjoyed trapshooting with his buddies as well as woodworking. He enjoyed making things for his family. Whatever John tried to do, he succeeded at! He lived a happy life surrounded by his favorite people and is now watching over them, careless and pain free.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday Sept 13 with visitation from 1 pm till service time both at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home-Nokomis with burial at a later date.
