Jean Ann (Jaros) McElroy

Jean Ann McElroy, 85, of Nokomis passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her home with her family at her side.

Services for Mrs. McElroy will be held Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis .  Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM prior to the service.  Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family. 

Jean Ann was born August 3, 1937, in Coalton to Stephen “Spike” and Dorothy Janzekovich Jaros and they both preceded her in death.  She attended Nokomis Schools and went on to marry her love, Lyle Edward McElroy on December 24, 1954 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis. They were married for over 67 years until Lyle’s passing on November 6, 2021.  Jean was a homemaker, staying home to raise their five children.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of St. Louis CCW and an active member in St. Louis Catholic Church. 

Mrs. McElroy is survived by her children:  Stephanie (Paul) Kincaid, Veronica (Randy) Akin, Carla (Craig) Carey all of Springfield and Monica (Dan) Clavin of Nokomis; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with 2 new great grandbabies due to arrive in July; siblings Duane Jaros of Nokomis, Janet (Randy) Kerley of Taylorville, Steven (Marti) Jaros of Tampa, FL and June Lowder, her cousin that she loved her like a sister.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by son, Robert McElroy on June 28, 2005, and her sisters Jeri Fox and Dorothy Woodland.

Memorials as suggested to St. Louis Catholic Church or St. Louis Catholic School.
