WWII Veteran Model A Ford Enthusiast
Jack Michael, 95, died at his home in Ohlman on Thursday, Nov 7, 2019. He was born in Mt. Pulaski/Macon County area on October 18, 1924. His father moved the family to the Salem IL area when Jack was a youngster. He married Pearl Marie Presgrove on April 14, 1944 while on leave from Army training. When he returned to his duties, he served in Europe during WWII as a driver for Head Quarters assigned to the first MASH units as they were introduced during WWII. When Jack finished his tour of duty and came home to the Iuka area, he worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic in the rock quarries in the Salem area. In 1951, he moved his young family to Ohlman to help open the Nokomis rock quarry. After 15 years he moved to the Hulcher rock quarry and worked as superintendent before it became Material Services. Jack enjoyed his retirement by restoring a 1929 Model A Ford Sedan, a 1939 Ford Mercury and a 1930 Model A Ford Coupe.
Jack is survived by his son Jim of Wichita, KS, Grand-daughter Sarah (Brian) Britton of Sullivan, Great Grand-daughters, Amanda (Chad Clark) and Alexis Britton. He was recently blessed with a Great Great Grand-daughter Ella Madelyn Clark, plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Glen and his wife, Marie.
Funeral visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov 15 at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home to begin at 10 a.m. with funeral to follow at noon at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pana, IL. Friends and family are invited to come and help us celebrate Jack’s long life…please share your favorite story with the family as we remember, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Jack, friend and buddy.
