Inez L (Johnson) DeWerff

Inez L. DeWerff, 98, of Nokomis passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 1:58 PM at Nokomis Rehab and Healthcare in Nokomis with her children by her side.

Funeral services for Mrs. DeWerff will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Nokomis with Pastor Chris Prumm officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9AM to 11 AM at the church.  Memorial are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Inez was born June 15, 1924 in Nokomis Township to William and Etta (Croon) Johnson.  She was a Nokomis High School graduate.  She and Luther DeWerff were married February 10, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Nokomis and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2013.  Inez was a farm wife and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, LWML and the Quilters Club at St. Paul’s.  She will be fondly remembered as always making the best chocolate angel food cakes for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Inez loved gardening, raising chickens and helping with the milking.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

Mrs. DeWerff is survived by her children, Cheryl (Johnie) West of Morrisonville, Ronald (Dawn) DeWerff of Nokomis, daughter-in-law Carolyn DeWerff; grandchildren, Cheri (Scott) Herpstreith, Duane (April) Schmedeke, Angie (David) Wolfe, Brian (Kedra) Schmedeke, Jodi (Jeff) Kinkelaar, Becky (Patrick) Koerner, Dan (Lisa) DeWerff, Jay (Dani) DeWerff, Cody (Jami) DeWerff, Greg (Lauren) DeWerff, Gabe DeWerff, step grandson John (Jamie) West,Jr, 36 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Irene Johnson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. DeWerff was preceded in death by her son, John DeWerff on November 6, 2021, son-in-law Nyle Schmedeke, step granddaughter Heather West, brothers, Melvin Johnson, Vernon Johnson and Cliff Johnson, sister-in-laws Peggy Johnson, Nete Johnson, Freda DeWerff and brother-in-law Harold DeWerff
