Eugene E Johnson

Eugene Edward Johnson, 90, of Nokomis died Friday, December 2, 2022, at 6:45 am at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.

Eugene was born October 24, 1932, the son of Otto and Marie (Plahutnik) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis and remained a lifelong member, holding several leadership roles. He married Mary Ann Bellaver on April 23, 1955. Together they raised two sons in the farmhouse where Eugene was raised.

Eugene farmed in rural Nokomis his whole life and was an active member of the Farm Bureau. He served on the Nokomis school board for many years. Eugene was also an Army veteran, having served two years in the Korean conflict. He took great pride in his family, his farm, and his community.

In addition to his wife, Eugene is survived by a daughter-in-law Sandra Johnson of Nokomis, and son Kurt (Julie) Johnson of Edwardsville; grandchildren Joshua (Jenny) Johnson, Derek Johnson, Erik (Courtney) Johnson, Johanna (Jess) Biermann, and Jason (Rachel) Johnson; and great-grandchildren James Edward, Jordyn, Josie, Adelaide, Dietrich, Genevieve, and Henry Edward. Eugene was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant sister, his brother, Carl, and his son, Karl.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 10:00 A.M.  at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis, IL. Rev. Jess Biermann will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 7 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Nokomis. Military honors will be conducted at graveside.  Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis.
