Elmer Martin Broers, 90, of Nokomis, IL was welcomed to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 12:15 A.M. at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on January 27, 1932 in Nokomis, IL, a son of the late Jurgen and Gertie (Pollmann) Broers.
Mr. Broers was a veteran of the United States Army having served from April 29, 1953 and honorably discharged on March 30, 1955 from Ft. Sheridan.
He married the former Ruth Ann Wolters on June 16, 1962 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Nokomis, IL. She survives.
Mr. Broers was a lifelong farmer in the Nokomis area. Elmer was a former member of the St. Paul’s Walther League, Young Married Couple’s Club, Sunday School Superintendent, lifetime member of the American Legion Post #94, Board Member of Nokomis Equity Elevator, Montgomery County Farmer’s Institute, Farmers Mutal Insurance, Montgomery County Farm Bureau.
Along with his wife, Ruth Ann of Nokomis, IL he is survived by his children,
Dana (Steven) Hellmann of Hamel, IL, Dean Broers of Nokomis, IL & Dale (Theola) Broers of Nokomis, IL.
Grandchildren, Andrew (Mikayah) Hellmann, Cody (Cheyenne) Hellmann, Ryan Hellmann, Hunter Broers, Lily Broers, & Travis Broers.
1 great-grandson on the way
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lyle Eugene Broers, and sister Elaine Kuethe, nephew, Roger Kuethe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Nokomis. Rev. Herb Grieves will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the church. Additional visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will take place at the St. Paul’s Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Montgomery County Cancer Association, or Unity Lutheran Christian Elementary School in East Saint Louis.
