Dorothy Betzold Obituary

Dorothy J. (Sorrells) Betzold, 91, of Nokomis, died at 6:30 p.m., July 16, 2020, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Private family funeral and burial services will be held with Edmund Hill officiating.  Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery.  Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Mrs. Betzold was born June 7, 1929 on the family farm, south of Raymond to Merrill and Nora (Stillahn) Sorrells.  She attended Harmony country school through 8th grade then graduated from Raymond Township High School in 1947.  She completed one year at Millikin University in Decatur before marrying Clifford Betzold on October 24, 1948 at the First Methodist Church in Raymond. They met through the Montgomery County Rural Youth organization and were married 65 years. During those years Dorothy was active in their farm operation, working alongside her husband driving tractors working in the field and with the livestock.  She prepared countless meals for the family and anyone else who happened to be around at lunch time. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed trying new recipes and always had a homemade pie or other dessert to end the meal.  Dorothy loved to mow and kept the yard and farmstead in Audubon township neatly groomed.

Mrs. Betzold was a 66 year member of the Nokomis Chapter #138 Order of the Eastern Star and a 60+ year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Thrifty Club and First United Methodist Church all of Nokomis.

Mrs. Betzold is survived by son, Bruce Betzold (friend Tami Monahan) of Nokomis, daughter Barbara (husband Mark) Paine of Vandalia; and two grandchildren, Austin Betzold and Nicole McGee.  One cousin, Gary Lessman of Knoxville, TN

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, on February 4, 2014, brother, Earl Sorrells and her parents.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Nokomis, the War Memorial of Nokomis Memorial Park and the Nokomis Pool Fund.
