Dorothy Archibald Obituary

Dorothy Archibald 90, of Nokomis died peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Dorothy was born May 13,1934 in rural Witt to Leo and Rosa(Lindemann) Huber. She graduated from Nokomis High School in 1952. On June 16,1956, she married D. Stanley Archibald at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. He preceded her in death on May 7,2008.

After living in Decatur for a couple of years, they moved to Nokomis to begin a life of farming. She took on the role of a farm wife by raising chickens, selling eggs, planting a big garden, canning, driving tractors and grain trucks along with raising 3 children.

She later worked many years helping to prepare taxes.

She was a member of the Thrifty Club, NOW senior citizens and previously a member of the Preceptor Epsilon Nu sorority.

An active member of St. Louis Catholic Church and CCW, she was awarded the 2021 Woman of Distinction for her parish.

Along with her husband, she was active in the Central Illinois Livestock Producers and co-chaired the Dinner-Dance for many years. She enjoyed riding her Gator through the countryside, reading, water aerobics, and visiting with friends. Most of all, she loved time with family especially watching her kids and grandkids sporting events and other activities. Over the years she volunteered at the now Nokomis Christian Missions, Nokomis Nursing home, Quad County Hospice, Nokomis Park pool fundraising events and many church functions. Dorothy never met at stranger and thrived making many new friends during her last 14 months at Tremont Ridge(Now Hillsboro Health Assisted Living). She also helped to get rural water to her community and served many years as town clerk of Audubon Township.

She is survived by her children Roger (Elaine) Archibald of St. Albans, MO, JoAnn (Roy) Marquess and Greg (Helen) Archibald  both of Nokomis. Grandchildren-David (Crystal) Archibald, Brian (Julie) Archibald, Mary (Alex) Holt, Jake( Krista) Marquess, Sara(Mike)Marquess-Allen, Zach(Lydia)Marquess, Amanda (friend-Chris)Rhodes, Kyle(Kaila)Archibald, Derek(Mariah)Archibald and Ryan (JoAnna) Archibald along with 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Melvin(Evelyn)Huber of Vandalia, Donald Huber of Nokomis, Clem(Doris)Huber of Ramsey, Charlie (Wib) Huber of Tolono and sister Barb Duncan of Taylorville along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13 from 4pm-8pm at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Additional visitation will be from 9-9:45am Tuesday January 14 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10am followed by burial in Nokomis cemetery.

Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Huber, grandson Seth Marquess and grandson-in-law Dusty Rhodes. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Louis Catholic School or Nokomis Memorial Park Pool Fund.
