Doris Smith Obituary

Doris Lucille (DeWerff) Smith, 97 of Nokomis, passed away Tuesday, November 19 at 11:05 PM at Nokomis Rehab and Healthcare in Nokomis.

Services for Doris will be held on Sunday, November 24 , 2019 at 3 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis.  Visitation will be from 1- 3 PM at the church with services to follow.  Burial is at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.  Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Doris was born on May 6, 1922 to Hilda Meyer and George DeWerff in Rountree Township. She married Kenneth Smith on September 12, 1995 and he preceded her in death.

She graduated St. Paul’s Lutheran School and then went on to cosmetology school.  She owned and operated her own shop, Shamrock Beauty Shop for many years.  Ms. DeWerff was a member of B & PW Club and bowled for years.  She loved to quilt and made beautiful quilts for her nieces and nephews.  Also, she quilted for years with St. Paul’s Ladies Aid which sent quilts to the Orphan Grain Train and Lutheran World Relief.

She is survived by her nieces  Judith (Daniel) Ognoskie of Wilton, IA,  Diane (Blayne) Hill and nephew David (Karol) DeWerff both of Nokomis plus many great and great, great nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin DeWerff in 1983.
