David Merle Smith

David Merle Smith 72, born in Pana Hospiital, May 14, 1948 passed away on August 13, 2020 in St. John,s Hospital Springfield, IL.

A lifelong resident rural Nokomis except for his time in the service from 1968 to 1970.

David was raised on the family farm, and after his service in the Army and 2 years at Allis Chalmers, he began farming on his own. Over the years he was also a truck driver, and at home a jack of all trades. He married Teresa E. Huges May 23, 1970. They raised 2 children, Jacob & Belle. The family spent many happy years together in the High School Rodeo.

Dave retired from farming in 2010, but continued to truck drive part time for the next 10 years. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife Teresa E. Hughs Smith, children Jacob Merle (Michelle Lilly) Smith and Mary Belle Smith, grandson Briar Thomas (Megan) Smith, great grandchildren Mackenzie Sue Smith and Wade Merle Smith, sister Ruth Ann (Robert) Lacey and sister-in-law Claudia Diane King Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Georege Thomas and Mary Belle Emmerson Smith, Halic and Alta Griswold, parents Guy Merle and Dorothy Lucille Griswold Smith and his brother Joseph Paul Smith.

No Services will be held.

Memorials may be directed to Montgomery County Cancer Association.
