Dale Houck Obituary

 

Dale Houck, 92, of rural Witt, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, December 2nd, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Houck was a farmer and Korean War Veteran.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Private family graveside services will be held on Friday, December 7th at 10:00 AM at Kettelkamp Cemetery in Nokomis with Woodside Church Leader Randy Goodman officiating.

Mr. Houck was born on May 11th, 1926 in Audubon Township to William J. and Anna E. (Adams) Houck. He was graduated from Nokomis High School in 1944. Upon graduation, Dale worked on the family farm. He married Marilyn J. Mayfield on November 19, 1950 in Greenville, and she preceded him in death on August 5th, 2002.

Dale entered the U.S. Army in January, 1951 during the Korean Conflict and served in active duty as a Construction Engineer and Heavy Equipment Operator with the 32nd Group in Korea until October, 1951 when he was called to return home and manage the family farm due to his father’s unexpected illness and eventual passing in December , 1951. In addition to farming, Dale continued his military service in the Army Reserves until November, 1957.

Mr. Houck was a member of Woodside Community Church of rural Fillmore where he served as Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was also a dealer for Archer Oil and Dekalb Seed Corn for several years, and he served on the Nokomis Community Unit #22 School Board and as Republican Precinct Committee Representative in Witt.

In addition to his wife and parents, Dale was preceded in death by his sister Irene and brother Frank. He is survived by his sons Larry (wife Heidi) Houck of Irving and Bill (wife Alana) Houck of St. Charles, Missouri and daughters Linda (husband Stephen) Johnston of Nokomis and Sandy (husband Kevin) Leitheiser of Hillsboro. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Memorials are directed to the Woodside Community Church and the American Heart Association.
