Connie R. Oke peacefully passed away at the age of 78 on Friday, September 30, 2022 at her home. She was born to Glen and Mary (Lewiski) Cole in May of 1944. She grew up in Nokomis with her seven siblings, Barbara, Brenda, Roger, Ronnie, Fred, Marla, and Buck. On June 15, 1963, she married the love of her life, Ronald (Os) Oke, in Nokomis. Os and Connie had one daughter, Missy and built their life at their country home, south of Nokomis. They were the creators of many memories for their large family of nieces, nephews and grandchildren, hosting many family get-togethers; celebrating Christmas Eve, throwing large 4th of July parties, and winter days of ice skating and hockey games on their pond.
One of her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Samantha (Nick) Johannsen, Megan, Aaron and Alyssa Huber and her great grandchildren, Madi, Kennadie and Carter Johannsen and Theo Huber.
Quilting, shopping, and traveling were some of her other joys in life. After her retirement from the State of Illinois, she could often be found in her sewing room working on her latest labor of love for someone precious to her or making items to donate to the church bazaar. Between sewing projects, she traveled to various destinations and went on many trips with her beloved sisters.
Lastly, she was a woman of God and used her blessings to quietly support her church, community, and other organizations close to her heart.
Connie is survived by her daughter, Missy (Phil) Huber of Witt, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, sisters Brenda (Dick) Rompasky, and Marla Cole, brothers Roger (Gail), Fred (Vanessa) and Buck (Debbie) Cole and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Os, who passed on September 4, 2013, her parents, sister, Barbara (Gale) Johnson, and brothers, Ronald Cole and Jackie Cole (in infancy). Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a funeral service to start at 12:00 PM on Thursday, October 6 at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, Nokomis. Burial will follow at Nokomis Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to St. Louis School or Montgomery County Cancer Association.
