Charles “Pete” Whitlow, 90, of Nokomis passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Pete was born February 16, 1933, in Decatur, the son of Guy and Grace (Donaldson) Whitlow. He graduated from Nokomis High School with the Class of 1951 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Pete married Viginia Lillian Starling on November 30, 1957, at the Kumler Methodist Church in Springfield, and they enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage.
Pete worked for Caterpillar for 37 years and was a lifelong farmer. During his retirement years, he assisted the Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Homes with services and drove cardiologists to and from satellite offices. Pete was member of Grace Baptist Church in Nokomis, and a 60 plus year member of the UAW 751. He enjoyed square dancing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Whitlow.
Pete is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Whitlow of Nokomis; daughters, Ann (husband, Dean Stevens) Whitlow of Lombard, and Janet (husband, George) Taylor of Litchfield; grandson, Derrick (wife, Sarah) Osborn of Tower Hill; great grandchildren, Brantlee, Etta, and Hattie Ann Osborn; and step-great grandchildren, Natalie and Braelyn Stevens.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home, 200 E. State Street, Nokomis, IL 62075.
Funeral Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the ceremony at Nokomis Cemetery.
