Mr. Charles (Chuck) Alfred O’Malley, 93, of Witt, passed away on January 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. The son of William and Celia (Brown) O’Malley, he was born on April 18, 1928, in their home in Audubon Township. He attended Star School in Witt through 8th grade where he was Valedictorian due to the fact that his other classmate failed. He graduated from Witt High School in 1944.
He served two years in the Army stationed in Ohm, Germany. When he returned, he farmed with his father and spent time carpentering with his uncle Francis “Skeek” O’Malley. He owned O’Malley’s Lounge for several years with his brother Dennis. He eventually took over the family farm and married Karel (DeWerff Grunenwald) on April 12, 1969, when he became a stepfather to Jody. Chuck retired from farming in 1993 and then began roofing with John DeWerff’s crew, which he loved to do.
His life will be remembered through his wife, Karel, his children, Angie (Curt) Barker of Camdenton, MO and their children, Madison (Kelsey) Barker, of Springfield, IL, and Michaela Barker of Champaign, IL; Charlie (Gia) O’Malley and their daughters, Ally and Abby of Nokomis, IL; Jody (Michael) Lang of Athens, WI, and their children Matt (Jen) Lang of Wausau, WI, Kyle (Christina) Lang of McFarland, WI, and Heidi (Paul) Schmidt of Washington, IL; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Doris) and Donnie. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy and Gerald, and his sister, Dorothy Anne (Wayne) Kottwitz.
He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, served on the Nokomis Elevator Board for a number of years and a lifelong member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, chasing the 300 game in bowling for many years, and being pranked by his roofing buddies. Chucky will long be remembered as someone who loved to make people laugh.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am in St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis with visitatioin Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at the church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery with full military rites by the Nokomis American Legion.
Memorials can be made to St. Louis Catholic School or St. Louis Church in Nokomis, IL.
