Carl Herman Adden and Isabelle “Izzie” Lucille (Masilonus) Adden both entered into eternal rest on June 8, 2021.
Carl was born in Nokomis, Illinois on September 23, 1925 to Louis and Helena (Hueschen) Adden. Isabelle was born in Nokomis, Illinois on January 22, 1929 to Peter and Pauline (Droltz) Masilonus.
Carl was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Isabelle was also confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Carl was raised in rural Nokomis and attended Walker School and St. Paul’s Lutheran School. Isabelle was raised in Coalton, Illinois and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1947. She continued her education at Brown’s Business College in Decatur and worked as a secretary to both State Representative Edward Shafer and Attorney Kenneth Moss.
Carl honorably served in the US Army during World War II and was stationed at Camp Sheridan (Chicago), Camp Hood (Texas), and Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri). He was sent into active duty in Germany and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.
Carl and Isabelle married on February 21, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and were married for 68 years.
After returning from World War II, Carl worked for the Montgomery County Farm Service until he became a full-time farmer where he retired at the age of 85. He farmed with family and enjoyed farming with his two grandsons starting in the mid 1990s. He loved the outdoors, working in the fields, and taking great pride in his garden.
Isabelle was a devoted housewife. She enjoyed writing poetry and loved the flowers that were planted around her home.
Both Carl and Isabelle enjoyed spending time with their three grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents (Louis and Helena) and three brothers (Paul, Vern, and Gene). Isabelle is preceded in death by her parents (Peter and Pauline) and one brother (Tony). They are also preceded in death by their son (Mark).
Both are survived by their daughter, Carla Marley of Morrisonville, Illinois, three grandsons: Timothy Marley (wife Amy) of Springfield, Illinois; Aaron Marley (fiancée Jamie) of Nokomis, Illinois; and Nicholas Marley (wife Lexy) Nokomis, Illinois. They are also survived by six great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Renae, Jordyn Jeremiah, Easton Aaron Carl, Isabella “Izzy” Jane, Jace Ryan, and Baylor Patrick. Also surviving are many nephews and nieces.
A joint funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Nokomis, Illinois.
