Irma Wise, 95, Compassionate Woman

Irma May Wise, 95, of Nokomis, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 1:19 A.M. at her home surrounded by her family.

Irma was born on May 24, 1922 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois in Bond County, a daughter of Ora and Edna (Whitten) Roe.

Irma married Harold D. Wise in St. Louis, Missouri on February 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1996.

She was the Mother of nine children. She is survived by her children, Connie Jahnssen of Greenville, Donna (John) Terpinitz of Carbondale, Daughter in Law Jan Wise (wife of Wayne) of Litchfield, Norma (Guy) Whitlow of Nokomis, Dixie (Mitch) Garrett of Hillsboro, Kristy (Alan) Sanders of Nokomis, Grant (Denise) Wise of Irving and Mitchell (Lynne) Wise of Nokomis. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren along with her brother Wayne Roe of Mulberry Grove.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two of her sons, Roger Wise in 1961 and Wayne Wise in 2011, her Son in Law Fritz Jahnssen (husband of Connie), as well as two brothers Ivan Roe and Eldon Roe and her sister Leota Wilcox.

Irma grew up in Mulberry Grove and after she married Harold they lived in and around Fillmore. She moved to an apartment in Nokomis after Harold passed away and lived there for several years before moving in with her daughter and son in law Kristy and Alan Sanders. She lived with Kristy and Alan for the last 8 years of her life. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a wonderful Homemaker and worked as a School Cook.

Irma took care of everything and everyone. Irma was a talented woman with many self taught skills. She was known for her sewing and her baking. At 4H events and at town meetings people waited for her homemade donuts, noodles and large kettles of ham and beans. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t can, freeze, cook or create. Her family still remembers her fried chicken and gravy, cobblers, pies and fun birthday cakes.

She was an avid gardener and she loved nature, especially flowers and birds. She was known for her ability to get a bargain and her quick wit. She loved to sing and passed songs down to each generation of her family. She enjoyed nothing better than a good game of canasta or dominoes.
