Melvin W. Johhnson 89, of Nokomis passed away Tuesday afternoon at 3:57 p.m. in Nokomis Rehab &n Healthcare.

Melvin was born April 9, 1926 in rural Nokomis to the late William A. and Etta H. (Croon) Johnson.  He was a mail carrier and mail clerk while also farming.  He graduated from Nokomis Schools and attended Coyne Electrical College in Chicago. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nokomis and a W.W. II Navy veteran.

Melvin married Irene J. Vernetti April 16, 1955 in the St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis. Irene survives as do children Karen(Jay) Schneider of Rosamond, Linda(Jim) Dooley of Nokomis, Daniel(Linda) Johnson of Famersville, Steve(Katie) Johnson of Nokomis, grandshildren Josh and Kimberly Schneider, Vince, Clark and Luke Johnson and a sister Inez Dewerff. A randdaughter Kayla Renee Schneider and brothers Vernon and Clifford Johnson preceded Melvin in death.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday December 19, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Christen Prumm officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery with complete military rites by Waples/Bauer American Legion Post 94 of Nokomis..  Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Church.

Memorials are suggested to the St, Paul's Lutheran Church, or the St. Louis Catholic School both of Nokomis.
